Snakebite mostly occurs in remote, rural communities in tropical and sub-tropical regions. In these areas, distant health facilities and limited transportation infrastructure hinder access to safe and effective treatment. These challenges, as well as bad experiences with poor-quality or ineffective antivenoms, can lead victims to fall back on traditional healing practices that delay medical treatment, cause greater injury, or even lead to death. In addition, healthcare workers are often not trained or qualified to treat snakebite patients, resulting in high case fatalities.
It is therefore essential to equip snakebite-affected communities with knowledge about snakebite prevention, first aid and proper health-seeking behaviour following a snakebite. The following resources include useful tools such as first-aid and prevention posters and leaflets developed by our members across the LMIC’s.
